Cape Girardeau, Missouri
is on the lower south east edge of the show me state, missouri... and on the
mississippi river banks... just north of the ohio rivers joining the mighty
miss.
for me and others coming from the southeast the location would put us
passing near reelfoot lake formed by the great earthquake of 1811. my son and i
stayed-in-grey's fish camp on the west side of the lake a couple years ago.
cheap, quaint cabins, supplies, john boat rental and a nearby nature center.
might be a good place for a preconvention gathering.
leaving reelfoot one would drive north and cross the mississippi river by
ferry and then access i55 near new madrid, the epicenter of the quake.
i cant find my old nanfa post to that 2 week trip... we made several stops
including visiting bill hoppe in YELLville arkansas. highlights of our 2 day
stay on reelfoot lake were seeing tennessee's only known population of golden
ear topminnows, swarming masses of silversides, critter road filled with all
kinds of snakes, frogs and ditch crickets and especially wandering the
beautiful lake in our motorboat.
september is a long way away but if this sounds of interest let me know.
