Thanks, Jerry. so since the specific chloramine formed is pH
dependant, then even if I did test what the ammonia level was using
thiosulfate, it wouldn't necessarily have an application to anyone
else because if their water pH was different, they would have a
different mix of chloramines.

It was interesting that I couldn't find that info on google. I kept
getting tangled up in organic chloramines that are used medicinally.
would you happen to have a website that discusses chloramine
generation in more detail?

I do have plants in most of my tanks, expect the darter and stream
fish tanks. Of course, this is where I have the most trouble with
algae.

I keep thinking about drilling my tanks and setting up a central
filter to help keep the non-planted tanks cleaner. the main problem I
have is that I buy my tanks used and I'm not sure which tanks are
tempered glass and which are not.
