Heres a link to a CNN story:

The Picasso Triggerfish, Rhinecanthus aculeatus, has long been accepted
as Hawaii's state fish, but just like Mississippi's flag, it was never
official. Now the HumuHumu has been declared only a temporary state fish
until a new one can be decreed in 5 years. The favorite contender is an
endemic freshwater goby. This goby is just a plain, dull, brown little
fish, but it lives only in Hawaii.

Yep, of all the magnificent fishes of Hawaii, the state is eschewing the
glamourous reefdwellers in favor of a freshwater endemic. Makes ya
wonder if someone on this list doesn't have a hand in things, eh?
