It is captive bred in Thailand but the problem is that:

1] it is very closely related to Pangasius hypopthalmus [the usual
irredescent shark of the pet trade] especially when young and many
fish farmers got burned with baby irredescent sold as mekong giant and
there are hybrid irredescent/mekong giant crossbred for farming too.

2] Pangasius bocourti is often sold as mekong giant too...
