I haven't had my yokes spawn as far as I can tell. But I too brought some
back from the Buffalo River. They are one of the coolest little fish. I
wanted to create the most natural environment for them, so put them in a
tank with a medium size rock pile. That was how I saw them while
snorkeling... always darting in and out of the rocks... it was all very
much like observing a reef aquarium. Anyway I have five that all seem to
be doing very well in a 29 breeder tub tank in my Georgia basement. It
never got real cold here, and they only slowed down eating a little when it
was the coldest. Other than that they have eaten well, even if they seem
rather shy and only come out of the rocks to eat. Two of the largest ones
have developed some rather strong orange/red coloring on their dorsal fins
and on their chest area. I probably won't see much with the rock pile in
place, but I will let you know if I see any other interesting behaviors. I
also have a Ozark Madtom in there, so that will be another problem with
breeding. However, I am very interested in this fish. What other darters
are they most closely related to?
