Two recent articles worth reading:

Wisconsin DNR is recruiting volunteer sturgeon watchers - people who sit on
the banks above spawning areas and see that breeding lake sturgeon are not
molested by poachers. Volunteers get a hat, two hot meals, and a bag lunch.
Response has been great! They have more volunteers than they can put to
work.

On a less optimistic note - the Devil's Hole Pupfish population is-in-an all
time low - 38 adults - half the number of last year and way down from a
population that once numbered 500. The reason for the decline is unknown
although a genetic "bottleneck" from a previous population crash has been
suggested.
