It appears to me that several people here have made the transition from
devising ways to punish the evil-doers to wondering about why we humans
think and behave the way we do. I would like to suggest that even if a
person's solitary goal is to prevent people from harming fish that
he/she considers in need of protection, rather than try to threaten,
complain or bully the alleged offender into compliance, it would be more
effective to attempt to understand the motivations and behavioral
triggers of everyone involved (including ourselves).

Does anyone have a good explanation for the behavior that has piqued
Dustin's curiosity below? What is it about the attempted sale of an
individual Chinese sturgeon that has us so upset? If I had attempted to
sell an endangered Mexican goodeid, would the reaction have been the
same? Why or why not?

I am really not interested in starting an argument or flaming anyone. I
am interested in hearing other peoples ideas or theories as to why this
is such an emotionally charged issue. Thank you for your thoughtful
replies.

Joel Healy

Again, I am curious as to why this fish has pushed so many people's
buttons when so many fish with a similar status are sold every day and
never a peep before?
