Well, if I may be so bold, methinks the main reason this sturgeon has
everyone's panties in a knot is the way the seller made his pitch.
Instead of just quietly offering the fish for sale, he had to go and
make a big point about how the fish was endangered and illegal but that
it couldn't stop him on account of his expert smuggling skills.

It's good to know that-in-least one field office has the sense to give
confiscated herps to someone who can care for them, but ya gotta admit
that that's a very rare exception to the rule. I'd like to think that if
other highly qualified people were to make their presence & capability
known to the right agencies then that sort of thing would be more
common, but I'd bet that only a very, very few would ever satisfy their
requirements.
