Howard says:

"Ecconomic intrests trump
conservation everyday."

Rob Carillio comments on this statement: Hello list... I have been away
from here since '02, I think, but hello to all the old names and faces I
would recognize on the list.

Anyway, to comment on what Howard mentioned in the quote above....This is
the sad truth, and everytime this happenes, I am reminded of the quote by
Senator Gaylord Nelson on the first Earth Day (1970?) which went something
like this:

"The economy is a wholly owned subsidiary of the environment.. when the
environment files chapter 11 bankruptcy, so will the economy"

In the doccumentary 'The Corporation' it shows great examples in how the
long term economic impacts on society to plunder the environment will far
outweigh what it will cost for spending a bit more on conservation in the
short haul.

>From all I notice about this, is that there is always enough money and time
to do something WRONG to the environment the first time, and never any money
to make it right thereafter. Having said this, what legacy is this culture
leaving behind.. advances in technology, but regression in so many other
ways from the toxic by-products of a consumer society.
