I haven't "poo-pooed" any state. My only objection to lmb is its conection with sports fishing and, yes, because it is one of the only fish that people know of.

I am not tied to ANY choice. I am very interested in us doing something with this idea. Again, my only reason for suggesting a generic choice is to be able to give as many people as possible a stake, and cyprinidae is the only family I can come up with that has such a wide distribution. Our north american cyprinids are pretty neat, and most genera that occur here are restricted to this continent. Lots of them require high quality conditions. But whatever we do, let's move on it.

If it's is darters, fine. If it is minnows, fine. If it is a group of minnows, fine. If it is a sunfish, fine. If it is a single darter species (most have rather narrow distribution, though), fine.

Let's do it.

"Where are we going?" "I don't know, are we there yet?"
