Last week while fishing in Ontario, Canada in a lake I have fished in for
many years, I caught a fish that was colored like a largemouth bass but had the
mouth and eye position of a smallmouth bass. It fought and jumped like a
smallmouth bass. I have caught many smallmouths over reefs like I was fishing this
time and have caught both smallmouths and largemouths in a ratio of about 4
smallmouths to each largemouth. Unfortunately I forgot my camera and I released
the 11 inch fish relatively unharmed, without taking a picture. Is this hybrid
relatively common in nature? Is it known to be sterile?
