Sounds like what java moss does when it grows outside of the tank. One tank
I had the strip light laying right on the glass lid, and the moss encased
the bulbs. It was hard, fiborous, and very dark green. Put this back in
water when I cleaned the back of the tank up, and it grew into a great clump
of normal aquatic form java moss.
