Lee I've trapped and skinned muskrats at least twice as big as 1.5 kilos. In
W.Va. I guess they get bigger. If you put a rat and a muskrat side by side you
would see there is only a superficial resemblance. Like I said we called them
swamp rabbits but they are much better eating than rabbits. I grew up eating
muskrats for Sunday dinner and in the winter every other day too. They were
the only fresh meat we had. chickens and ducks were too valuable to eat. Eggs
and duck down were a cash crop. We also trapped fish in big fish traps, seined
fish, set trot lines. What ever it took to eat. In the summer when the garden
came in we ate like kings.
