The 2004 NANFA Conservation Research Grants Program is now open. This is a
competitive review process in which NANFA members can submit funding
requests for proposals that directly relate to a conservation-related
question involving North America's fish fauna. This year we have $1300 with
which to fund a deserving proposal (or proposals). The deadline for
applications is January 20, 2004. A .pdf flyer describing the program and
how to submit a proposal is at:

The three previous recipients of this grant are:
2003: Karen Lawrence, of Southeastern Missouri State University, to study
water turbidity and body color communication in darters;
2002: Claire McGrath, of the University of Colorado, to study displacement
of greenback cutthroat trout by nonnative brook trout;
2001: Jean Krejca, the University of Texas, to study the blind cave catfish,
Prietella phreatophila.
