Hello fellow fish lovers,
Well last Wednesday and Thursday was the Michigan Envirothon state
competition. It consisted of about 30 teams from across the state(yes, even
the team who drove 11 hours from Houghton county). It was held at Grand
Valley State University in Grand Rapids. After the big testing day, we were
able to get 1st place in the aquatics, and 1st in the wildlife divisions. We
were very close to 1st place in the other divisions, in fact, they had to
recount(does that sound familiar to you? :). We had been working on a
drainage ditch filter strip(buffer strip) project we set up, and presented
that to the judges. For the whole competition, though, we ended up in 2nd
place in the state. Each person on our 5 person team was awarded with a $750
cash prize. If we would have gotten in first place, which was extremely close
to our score, we would have gone to the international competition in Nova
Scotia, and a lot more money. Well I am very happy to recieve $750(much of
which will go towards college), and feel honored to be the team that knew the
most about aquatics in the state. If it wasn't for NANFA, I'm sure we would
not have done so well. NANFA has helped keep me interested, and I owe much of
the thanks to NANFA, thanks!
P.S How much would a cheap underwater video camera cost? hehe Thanks again!
