yes, it was extremely large. a world class size. a leviathan.
the crew first shouted "EEL !" when it hit the deck.
it was large enough so that no one else was willing to pick it up on the
chance that it was an eel (eels being rather slimy and they bite).
even after it was identified, no one else wanted to mess with it.
i get to handle all the strange wildlife that don't get dumped into the
cooler - and some that do - we try to release most non-shrimp things
unharmed - except the ones i keep for andy borgia - and i've seem a fair
number of pipe fish caught in small mesh seines but on this day the nets
being used were made of half inch square netting so most real small stuff
doesn't get caught up in it.
it was big enough that i had it sticking out of both ends of my fist with
plenty of "wiggle" left on both ends.

other than the 6 year old, the rest of the crew was wet and muddy and
didn't want to handle the camera.....guess i should have insisted, ya
disbelievers....

and, just to clarify, the "added size" rule was not in effect as we
weren't fishing, just shrimping. didn't even have a rod in the boat. just
beer and nets (besides maneuvering the boat and picking up miscellaneous
wild life, my other job is to keep sampling the refreshments to be sure
they aren't spoiling).

Please respond to
nanfa

I've seen some in the Chesapeake Bay, but I don't recall them getting that
big either.
