This message is a two-fer--first of all, I think I've identified my mystery
darter from the Mountain Fork of the Flint River in AL as Etheostoma
nigripinne, the Blackfin darter. I was corresponding with Jean Porterfield
of Centre College in KY who suggested I look at a paper co-authored by her
husband Patrick Ceas on the Eth. squamiceps complex in a 1992 Copeia, and
bingo! My darter education continues...

Secondly, I have now received 2 complete applications for the NANFA
Conservation Research Grant. Both are excellent proposals, this will be a
tough decision... The deadline is January 15, so the floor is still open for
submissions.

Yr Obdt Svt,
Bruce Stallsmith
