Mike-

It surprises me that you can keep them with other fish. Back in the
70's in Myrtle Beach I collected a whole bunch (>100) of really small
eels ranging in size from little thin hair like critters to mini eels
about 3 inches long. Over the next few weeks the biggest eels ate all
the smaller ones and then choked to death trying to eat each other.
Perhaps the problem was that the biology teacher was not good at
feeding them.

It's interesting that the eels like earthworms. My brother once
caught a 2.5 foot eel in lake ontario on a worm. Scared him half to
death until he realized what it was.
