I'm no Bantam sunfish expert. In fact I just recently netted my first bantam less than a month ago. For this reason the ID is fresh in my mind.

I should start by saying I've never seen a Bluegill with such a prominent soft dorsal spot (in Northern Illinois/Indiana). The soft dorsal coloration looks just like the young Bantam sunfish I recently sampled but much more pale. It also seems the lateral line is interrupted. Maybe it's just me eyes.

Yesterday I spent much of the day-in-the Navasota River near College
Station, TX. Great day! Here's a writeup. Opinions from the pros on
identifications appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
